How to Share a ZIP File (That Email Refuses to Send)
Gmail blocks ZIPs containing executables. Outlook blocks more. And everything blocks big ones. Send a link instead.
Try Foldr.SpaceZIP files hit two walls in email: size (the usual 20-25MB cap) and security filters — Gmail refuses ZIPs containing .exe files outright, and corporate mail gateways quarantine far more than that, often silently. Hosting the ZIP and sending a link sidesteps both. It's the standard pattern for delivering software builds, design asset packages, client deliverables, and folder structures that need to arrive intact.
Step by step
- 1
Create the ZIP
Right-click the folder → "Compress" (Mac) or "Send to → Compressed folder" (Windows). Folder structure inside is preserved exactly.
- 2
Upload it to foldr.space
Up to 2GB on Pro — enough for a serious asset package or software build.
- 3
Send the link
It passes through every mail filter as a plain URL. The recipient clicks and downloads the archive.
- 4
Recipient extracts it
Built-in on macOS and Windows: double-click (Mac) or right-click → Extract All (Windows).
Frequently asked questions
Why does Gmail block my ZIP?
Gmail rejects archives containing executable file types (.exe, .js, .bat, and others), even nested ones, as anti-malware policy. A hosted link isn't an attachment, so the policy never triggers — appropriate for legitimate software delivery to people who expect it.
ZIP vs sharing files individually?
ZIP when the folder structure matters (websites, code, project files). For a flat set of files, a Foldr Bulk Foldr (2-100 files, one link) lets recipients preview and cherry-pick without downloading everything.
What about password-protected ZIPs?
They upload and download fine. You can double up: an encrypted ZIP behind a Pro password-protected link means neither the host nor a link-forwarder can open the contents.
Size limit?
2GB per file on Pro; Super Large uploads beyond. Split archives (.z01, .z02…) also work — upload all parts to one Bulk Foldr.
